The Parent/Instructor Relationship

Duchene

A Million Ways staff is made up of certified martial arts instructors withspecialized training in working with special needs students.  We are here to provide a positive environment for our students to grow and develop as happy and healthy human beings.  Good communication between parents and instructors is key to maximizing our ability to address specific student needs.  Please let us know of any difficulties at home, in school, or in the community that your child is experiencing.  We’ll do our best to support you and our students to move forward assertively and confidently.

Ex: Joshua frequently over corrects himself when he makes ANY mistake (big or small).  He would dramatically grab his face and exclaim, “Oh No”, with EVERY minor error.  Upon noticing this tendency in class, the A Million Ways instructor gave Joshua behavioral options to practice instead of grabbing his face, and gently explained that he could relax and make small adjustments for small errors.  Joshua’s mother confirmed that he had been experiencing more and more anxiety of mistakes and appreciated the instructor’s approach in assisting him.

HorwitzStudents begin in Basic Training and Progress to Leadership Training over time.  The difference in the Basic and Leadership Programs is the focus of training; Basic is introductory, rudimentary training that acquaints students with the world of martial arts, while Leadership involves whole-brain, integrative training with more advanced kicks, combinations, and weapons.  Ask your instructor for more information about making the transition to Leadership training as soon as your child is ready.
